Description:
Built in 1969, the Nature Center has been modified a number of times to meet changing needs. During this renovation and expansion the goal was to make the Center more accessible, inviting and useable to broaden its appeal to all visitors.
Project highlights include indoor areas for visitors to sit, relax, and observe the outside; an elevator and a new stairway to provide easy access to the second floor; and new classrooms oriented outwards.
Special “green” design features include:
- Resource efficient equipment, lighting and appliances.
- Geo-thermal HVAC system
- Low flow plumbing fixtures in all restrooms
- Brick and other materials from demolished areas were reused
- Energy conserving systems and controls
